The year has absolutely flown. As soon as we thought we were hitting Spring, Murphy threw in one of the most intense cold fronts we have had all winter. The coldest of days we have experienced this year to date with rain that filled the dams and snow that thickly coated the mountains. Its not really a sight we see at all in these parts but this year it was pretty spectacular witnessing the white capped Mountains en-route to Humansdorp. The long dry season eventually came to a grinding halt ( possibly just temporary ) and with the 100’s of ml’s everything turned from dark and dull green to life. The clivia’s and their bright orange trumpet flowers adding a striking flash of colour to the shady areas of the garden. Millions of little buds forming on all the flowering plants…and the Swallows have made their return to nests for the summer.
September saw us hosting our first Wine and Food Pairing with Raka wines. We put together an exceptional menu for the evening and paired it with some of their top vintages. The event was booked out and our guests left happy, well fed and well wined. If you are interested in any of our other upcoming events then pop us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org to either go onto our data base or to enquire what is happening and when.
It has also been our award month and our big introduction into the Chaine des Rotisseurs. Being well known for our delicious food and great wine selection it was only natural that we got involved with the Chaine. Owner, Sarah-Jane Swanepoel was inducted as Chef de Table in the Bailliage de L’Outeniqua. There isn’t a bailliage for the Eastern Cape as yet so hopefully in the next year or so the interest will increase and more interested people will join for us to have our own committee for this area. We then went on to the Diners Club Wine List awards in George held at the beautiful Monet restaurant overlooking the Fancourt Golf Estate. Absolutely stunning setting which was made even better when we were awarded a Platinum Award for our new Wine List. The long trip home took us past St Francis and on to East London for the annual Lilizela Awards hosted by Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency and South African Tourism honouring the best of the best in the hospitality industry. We walked away as a finalist in the 4 star Country House category which we are immensely proud of.
September is also Tourism month as well as Heritage month. If you were one of our guests this month you would have probably noticed our ladies dressed in traditional attire with colourful beads and head bands.
As we move into October please keep an eye on our website or facebook or pop us a mail to see what is happening and when from our Burger nights that we are going to start up again now that it should be warming up and hopefully we can squeeze in one last wine pairing before December hits not forgetting our Monday Night dinner specials and then really special three course dinners on a Friday and Saturday night
